BSW
Our Bachelor of Social Work degree program prepares students to advance human rights and social justice, and to serve individuals, families, and communities in need.

MSW
Our Master of Social Work program prepares students for clinical social work and allows them to pursue their passion for social justice on campus full time or part time, online part time or through Advanced Standing.

Ph.D.
Our doctoral students are welcomed into a supportive community where they are mentored, and prepared to teach and conduct research to address critical social problems.

Continuing Education
Our CE program offers social workers and human service professionals the coursework and credits they need to serve clients, agencies, and communities.

Non-Degree Program
Our Non-Degree program allows students to explore the field of social work and potentially apply credits toward our Master of Social Work degree program.

Innovations Institute
Innovations Institute, at UConn’s School of Social Work (SSW), works in partnership with government agencies, health care providers, youth and their families, and community-based organizations nationwide to improve outcomes for children, youth, young adults, and their families. A University institute of the SSW, Innovations extends the School’s commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and the improvement of human well-being nationwide.
The Nancy A. Humphreys Institute
for Political Social Work
The Nancy A. Humphreys Institute for Political Social Work works to increase the political participation and power of social workers and the communities they serve. The Institute leads the national "Voting is Social Work" Campaign, and trains social workers and students to lead in politics through its Campaign School for Social Workers.

On April 8, three @uconnsocialwork students delivered poster presentations and cumulative reflections as required to graduate with a BSW degree on the Child Welfare and Protection Track. This program prepares Spanish-speaking students with specialized knowledge and experience in child welfare and protection services to meet the needs of Connecticut’s Spanish-speaking families served by the @ct_dcf (Department of Children and Families).
The students—Bianca Cedeno Encalada ’26; Perla Diaz ’26; and Yahayra Llacxaguanga ’26, are pictured at the event with SSW Dean Laura Curran and Commissioner Susan Hamilton. DCF awarded the students with certificates.

Last week, several UConn Bachelor of Social Work students @uconnsocialwork participated in Health Equity Advocacy Day at the Connecticut State Capitol as part of Health Equity Week.
Students met with legislators and attended a panel discussion where speakers connected issues related to affordable housing, daycare, healthcare, and the needs of justice-involved individuals. Additionally, some students were able to experience a meeting of the Human Services Committee.
UConn Ph.D. alumna Shannon Lane ’09, director of the Humphreys Institute for Political Social Work and professor-in-residence; MSW alumna Krystal Rich, adjunct professor in the School of Social Work; and Ayesha Clark, MSW, MPH, executive director of Health Equity Solutions in Hartford, coordinated and planned the event. Representatives from UConn Health also attended.

On Wednesday, April 22, Shannon Lane, director of the @uconnsocialwork @nahipsw and professor-in-residence, will speak on Democracy and Social Work in 2026 as part of @influencingsocialpolicy’s new webinar series. Dr. Lane links political social work to the NASW Code of Ethics and shares practical steps for community engagement.
Gary Parker, president of ISP, will moderate the discussion.

Zhenrong Su, a second-year doctoral student at the @uconnsocialwork , has been selected as one of 11 interns from undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs across diverse disciplines for the 2026 summer research internship at the Lee Kum Sheung Center for Health and Happiness at the @harvardchansph!
Congratulations Su! 👏👏
This summer, Su will collaborate with Associate Professor Ashley Whillans at Harvard Business School on behavioral science research exploring how decisions about time and money shape workplace well-being, productivity, motivation, and retention.
At UConn, Su studies community-level factors that shape child and family well-being, with a focus on child care subsidies and child maltreatment prevention. He is advised by Assistant Professor Jon Phillips.
