For those who have achieved a high level of academic performance in both class and field work practice during their undergraduate social work studies, we offer a special designation called Advanced Standing. Advanced Standing is designed for individuals who have graduated within the last six years from an undergraduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). If you qualify, courses from the foundation phase of the program will be waived and you will begin the MSW program in mid-July. Applicants who choose this option will need their BSW degree conferred prior to the beginning of the advanced standing summer session. The Advanced Standing Option is full-time only and cannot be pursued on a part-time basis.
How It Works
Begin in the Summer
The program begins in mid-July with an intensive five week session where you will complete five credits. The summer session introduces new content and serves as a bridge to the advanced year of the MSW program.
Full-time Study Fall and Spring
After successful completion of the summer session, you will join the advanced year (2nd) of the two-year program. You will complete concurrent coursework, an internship (560 hours, 9 credits), a research course and electives as part of the advanced year. You should be prepared for full-time study and consider not working full-time.
