Earn your Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in one year with our Advanced Standing option.
Ranked among the best graduate social work programs in the nation, UConn School of Social Work offers affordability, flexible options, and a career-based MSW curriculum.
Who Should Apply
Advanced Standing is a study option for students who want to accelerate their education and career as a social worker. To qualify, you must have received a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree within the last six years from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Students who choose this option must have their BSW degree conferred before the start of the Advanced Standing summer session. If you qualify, courses from the foundation phase of the program will be waived and you will begin the MSW program in mid-July.
The Advanced Standing option is for full-time students.
How It Works
Begin in the Summer
The program starts in mid-July with an intensive, five-week session that introduces new content and serves as a bridge to the advanced year of the MSW program.
Finish in the Fall and Spring
After completing the summer session, you will begin the advanced year (2nd) of the two-year program. You will complete required coursework, an internship (560 hours, 9 credits), a research course and electives.
