Regalia

All students are required to wear the UConn blue cap (mortar board) and gown to Commencement if they wish to participate. No exceptions will be made to this rule. You are not required to participate in Commencement – it is optional.

  • Caps and gowns can be purchased through the UConn Bookstore – see Purchasing Regalia for more information.
  • Candidates may use borrowed or handed down regalia from a recent (last two years) UConn graduate, but it must match the current color in use (older regalia will likely not be the correct color).
  • Candidates can feel free to personalize their caps as long as they are in the realms of good taste!

Purchasing Regalia

The online regalia ordering portal is now open. The deadline for placing Ship-to-Home orders is April 13, 2026.

Starting on April 1, 2026, you may purchase regalia in-person at the Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, and Storrs Bookstore locations.

Ticket Information

  • Each graduate will receive 9 commencement tickets for guests*. Graduates themselves do not need tickets.
  • Tickets will be available for pick up at the School of Social Work in April – see Ticket Distribution.
  • All guests aged 4 and older must have a ticket for entry.
  • There is no assigned seating.
  • For those with guests that will need special accommodations – see Accommodations for Guests with Disabilities.
  • If you are a student with a disability and require an accommodation in order to participate in Commencement, please contact OSAS at sswstudentservices@uconn.edu. Please allow adequate time to ensure that appropriate accommodations may be arranged.

*If you anticipate needing more than the 9 tickets automatically provided, please indicate the number of additional tickets you are requesting BEYOND the initial 9 in the Graduate RSVP Form, or email sswstudentservices@uconn.edu. While we cannot guarantee extra tickets, we will do our best to accommodate requests.

Ticket Distribution

Tickets will be distributed at the Office of Student and Academic Services (OSAS), room 106 on the first floor of the School of Social Work building - dates/times TBA.

Accommodations for Guests with Disabilities

The venue is well equipped to welcome guests who need accommodations. Please see below a list of accommodations available.

Jorgensen Auditorium

  • Handicapped seating is available on the main level of the Auditorium. Wheelchair accessible restrooms are located in the Jorgensen Lower Lobby. Elevator service is available from the Jorgensen Main Lobby to the Lower Lobby only. There is no elevator service to seats in the mezzanine or lower and upper balconies.
  • Remote ASL interpreting and CART services available at all ceremonies.
  • Assistive Listening System – Available free of charge from the Front Office.
  • Handicapped parking is available in the North Garage.

If you need to request disability accommodations above and beyond seating for those who use a wheelchair/walker/crutches/scooter, please reach out to OSAS at sswstudentservices@uconn.edu by Friday, April 24, 2026.

Accessible Van Service
Accessible Van Service will be available upon request on Saturday, May 9. Please make reservations in advance. To make a reservation, please call (860) 486-4991. This service is available to transport guests needing assistance from their parking lots to the ceremony venues.

General Commencement Information

Doors open for guests at 12:30 pm.

Metal detectors will be in use at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts. You will be asked to remove cameras, cell phones, headwear, keys, and other large metal objects. You will not need to remove belts, coins, wallets, watches/jewelry.

Balloons, banners, signs, and umbrellas will NOT be permitted. You will be asked to leave them outside or return them to your vehicle. Other prohibited items include alcohol, weapons of any kind, outside food & beverage, cameras with detachable lenses, backpacks, noise makers, laser pointers, and bags larger than 12x6x12.

Photographs of guest tickets will not be accepted for entry. All guests must have a physical ticket for entry at all ceremony venues.

There will be a strict no re-entry policy in effect at all ceremony venues. Guests who need to leave the building for any reason will not be permitted re-entry.

Directions & Parking

Traffic on the Storrs campus during the Commencement weekend is heavy. Please plan to arrive with plenty of time to park and make your way to the Jorgensen. Give yourself more time than you think you need.

North Garage is the closest parking garage to the Jorgensen Center located at the intersection of North Eagleville and Hillside Roads. Various other lots and UConn’s shuttle bus service will also be available, as well.

Parking for people with disabilities (as verified by an official state department of motor vehicles decal) will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you otherwise need to drop off guests or graduates, there is a cut-out in front of the Jorgensen that may be used for this purpose.

Guests will enter through the main entrance on Hillside Road.

Shuttle Bus Service
Shuttle buses will run on Saturday, May 9. Please visit this website for detailed pictures of the routes. If you park in one of our perimeter lots (Lot C, F, K, or S), please feel free to utilize this shuttle bus service.

Photography
Flash Photography is the official photographer for the University’s Commencement ceremonies. Proofs will be sent to the candidates. Pictures can be ordered online or by phone.

Ceremony

  • Who is eligible to participate?

  • How long will the ceremony last?
    Approximately 1.5-2.0 hours.
  • What time should graduates arrive?
    No later than 12:30 pm.

    Balloons are NOT permitted. Guests will be asked to leave them outside or return them to their vehicle.
  • Will my bag be checked?
    All bags will be checked upon entry. Backpacks and large bags are NOT permitted.
  • Can I bring food/beverages?
    Outside food and beverages are NOT permitted.

Diplomas & Diploma Covers

  • Will I receive my diploma during the ceremony?
    No. Your diploma will be mailed to the address you have on file in Student Admin approximately eight weeks after your conferral date. Please ensure this address is up to date so that your diploma will get to you without issue.
  • How will I receive a diploma cover?
    You will receive a diploma cover at the ceremony.
  • How can I get a diploma cover if I am not attending the ceremony?
    Please email commencementoffice@uconn.edu starting on May 26, 2026, to request one. Please include your full name, full mailing address, and type of degree received (Bachelors, Masters, Doctoral) and a cover will be sent to you. No requests will be fulfilled until May 25, 2026.

Honors Cords

  • Does the University distribute any cords to indicate Latin Honors?
    No. The University does not distribute any cords to indicate Latin Honors.

Participation in Commencement Ceremonies

  • Is my participation in the ceremony mandatory?
    No. Your participation is completely voluntary.
  • If I do not attend, will my name still be called?
    No. Your name will not be read if you are not in attendance.
