Individuals, Groups and Families Practice (IGFP)

Prepare for a meaningful career in clinical social work.

The Individuals, Groups, and Families Practice (IGFP) concentration equips students with evidence-based, trauma informed, and culturally responsive clinical skills to help clients improve their mental health and overall well-being. Students learn to use the therapeutic relationship as a tool for healing and growth, empowering individuals and families to:

• Strengthen resilience and reach their personal potential
• Manage life challenges and mental health stressors
• Build healthy communication and relationships
• Advocate for their rights and access needed resources

IGFP coursework focuses on a variety of evidence-informed and culturally responsive practices to support student learning and performance in their practicum placements.

Career opportunities

Graduates of the IGFP concentration are prepared for diverse and rewarding roles in mental health and social service settings, including:

• Clinical social worker or therapist
• School or family counselor
• Behavioral health clinician
• Case manager or crisis intervention specialist
• Private practice clinician (with licensure)

An IGFP focus provides a strong foundation for clinical licensure (LMSW/LCSW) and offers excellent job prospects in a growing field that values compassionate, skilled practitioners.

Who should choose the IGFP concentration?

This concentration is ideal for students who want to help others thrive through direct clinical practice. Those with interest and/or backgrounds in psychology, human development and family sciences, or related fields will find the IGFP path especially well-aligned with their career goals.
