Patricia Carlson, Ph.D.
Assistant Research Professor
Patricia Carlson is an assistant research professor in the UConn School of Social Work. Her research interests include child welfare systems and services, child maltreatment and neglect, poverty and child maltreatment, welfare programs and policies, and translational research.
Dr. Carlson is the co-Principal Investigator and Project Director of the Performance Improvement Center (PIC). In this role she serves as the co-Principal Investigator or Principal Investigator on PIC Grants; provides ongoing monitoring and review of program fidelity, capacity, cultural relevance, and program implementation; secures extramural funding to augment and sustain projects; and coordinates PIC’s efforts to translate evaluation findings to practice.
Dr. Carlson’s scholarship is published in the Journal of Public Child Welfare and Oxford Bibliographies in Social Work (New York: Oxford University Press). Additionally, she has presented several papers at the Annual Conference of the Society for Social Work and Research; the Annual Program Meeting of the Council on Social Work Education; the International Conference on Innovations in Family Engagement; and the Social Policy 2.0 Conference.
At the School of Social Work, Dr. Carlson teaches MSW level Advanced Research: Program Evaluation and Program Planning, Development and Evaluation; and Program Planning, Development and Evaluation.
Dr. Carlson joined the School of Social Work’s faculty in 2019. She earned her Ph.D., MSW, and BA from UConn. She also has a Post-Master Certificate in Developing and Leading Effective Teams from Washington University, St. Louis.
