Salome Raheim, PhD, ACSW


Salome Raheim, PhD, ACSW, is Professor at the University at Albany—SUNY School of Social Welfare and Dean Emeritus at the UConn School of Social Work. Her scholarship, teaching, and academic leadership focuses on promoting equity in organizations and communities, as well as integrative mind-body-spirit social work practice.  While Dean at UConn, Dr. Raheim initiated and co-led a school-wide, multi-year change initiative to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion. She led a similar effort at the University of Iowa School of Social Work while serving as its Director.  Her passion for creating more just and healthy organizations has taken her across the United States and to four continents to provide training and consultation to schools, universities, human service organizations, and businesses.  Details of an on-going international project in which she is a collaborator can be found at The Privilege Project.

A native of Baltimore, MD, Dr. Raheim holds a PhD in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa, an MSW from Catholic University of America, an MA in Integrative Health and Healing from the Graduate Institute, and a BSW from Bowie State University, a historically black college.  Dr. Raheim is an experienced meditation and yoga practitioner and a strong advocate for inclusion of integrative mind-body-spirit approaches in education and the human services.
