Flexible Options Available
Full-Time, Complete in Less Than One Year
The full-time (10 month) option is available to MSW students in any of the three concentrations: Individual, Groups, and Families; Policy Practice; or Community Organizing.
How It Works
Begin in the summer: The program starts in mid-July with an intensive, five-week session that serves as a bridge to the advanced year of the MSW program.
Finish in the fall and spring: After completing the summer session, you will begin the advanced year of the two-year program. You will complete required coursework, an internship (560 hours, 9 credits), a research course, and electives.
Part Time, One Year and a Semester
The 18-month option is available only to MSW students in the Individual, Groups, and Families (IGFP) concentration.
How It Works
Begin in the summer: The program starts in mid-July with an intensive, five-week session that serves as a bridge to the advanced curriculum of the MSW program. Students take two classes, in addition to their practicum (field) placement, during the fall and spring of the first year. Remaining coursework (without field) will be completed the following fall semester to complete the degree.

Who Should Apply
Advanced Standing is a study option for students who achieved a high level of academic performance in both classroom and practicum education during their undergraduate social work studies. To qualify, you must have received a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree within the last six years from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Students who choose this option must have their BSW degree conferred before the start of their Advanced Standing program. If you qualify, courses from the foundation phase of the MSW degree will be waived and you will begin the MSW program in mid-July.
