Research Resources

The Office of Scholarship and Research provides faculty and staff with a range of resources and supports to facilitate robust research and scholarship opportunities. These includes resources and guidance that the University provides, federal funding opportunities, non-federal funding opportunities, Ph.D. dissertation research funding, and Ph.D. external funding opportunities.

AY 22-23 Internal Funding Opportunities

  • Dean’s Incentive Award: SSW Research Teams Development
    • Focus: Encourages the development of research teams with high potential for securing external funding through activities such as, but not limited to, an external-facing conference to develop special series publications; demonstration programs; community-academic partnership activities; an infographic to disseminate research findings; pilot study research; a high-impact systematic review or meta-analysis; or an external grant application.
    • Scope: We will provide three awards of up to $5,000 each.
    • Deadline: Rolling
  • Dean’s Incentive Award: Large Grant Program
    • Focus: Seeks proposals from full-time SSW faculty investigators for research and scholarship that have strong potential to lead to extramural grant funding.
    • Scope: We will provide funding for up to two awards between $10K and $20K each.
    • Deadline: Rolling
  • Scholars in Aging: Seed Funding Opportunity
    • Focus: Seeks proposed studies broadly related to aging and gerontology.
    • Scope: Up to $4,000 for one award.

The program is designed to advance SSW faculty research and scholarship. Faculty must submit a grant proposal or contract an off-campus grant or agency within one year of the start of the project period. Projects with research, teaching, or training aims are eligible.
    • Scope: Minimum across all project years is ≥ $100K.
    • Deadline: Rolling; must be submitted three months before the beginning of the semester in which the course release will be requested. Faculty should complete the Course Release Request Form and submit the application components to ssw-ors@uconn.edu.

UConn School of Social Work 2022 Dean’s Incentive Award

We are seeking clearly written, timely, and promising proposals from investigators for research, scholarly, or planning activity that has strong potential to lead to extramural grant funding. Successful external funding may require applicants to present completed pilot work leading to the proposed activity. It may also require demonstration of scientific productivity through recent publications of peer reviewed articles, book chapters, and monographs. Successful extramural funding applications may also necessitate considerable legwork to identify and convene collaborators and consultants who could potentially enhance the scientific breadth of the proposed scholarly activity.

Award Amount:
Up to two $5,000 awards will be made.

Eligibility:
Grants are open to tenured, tenure track, and research faculty. Faculty awarded Dean’s Incentive funds in 2021 will not be eligible for awards in 2022.

Key Considerations:
In this year’s call, we give added weight to studies that embed a racial and ethnic equity perspective, in some aspect of the study including: relevant design and data collection, data analysis, and dissemination strategies (see Andrews, et al., 2019 for guidance). We are open to applications that propose collection and/or analysis of qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods data.
